WANTED- old Burrus stamp auction catalogs. What is the Trenchard list?

Post by philimpex »

Hello,

I am trying to get an overview of the catalogs of the Maurice Burrus auctions. I already own a few but also several catalogues are missing.

A Trenchard list is often given as a reference for offers. Where could I get such a Trenchard list?

Thank you in advance for any help.

I am interested in several Burrus catalogs and other classic literature for my reference library.

Ok I understand, in fact solving the problem with the list is the most important to me, I thought that someone might own a pdf file or the list was somewhere to download. Or simply that someone might know more about this as I do..

The name relates to this man, sadly now passed :

https://stamps.org/news/c/news/cat/aps-news/post/closed-albu ... -1931-2023

The article says that he donated his huge collection of catalogues and other material to the APRL (American Philatelic Research Library), so that is probably the best next step, via their website :

https://stamps.org/services/library

A quick keyword search using "Burrus auctions" brings up this page, where the Burrus catalogues are mentioned second, below Ferrary :

https://stamps.org/news/c/news/cat/library-resources/post/re ... e-catalogs

I hope that this will give you some more avenues to explore.

I have the original October 1st 1963 catalogue of Mauritius, in case you can use scans from that ; but it is not for sale. They appear occasionally on Ebay.

Thank you - I have both of the catalogs you own, I have purchased a larger lot at an auction that contained 26 different catalogs (In Switzerland the most common is the one for Switzerland, this seems to be normal.)

I will build a list of the catalogs I have and try to complete. I have the auctions from Arthur Hind and Alfred Caspary complete I am willing to send scans on request.. searching for several catalogs of Nicaragua from other collectors.

Only a few sample pages are shown above, and heaps of photos.
