Is there any Australian States Railway Stamps station names listing?

We all have and handle these from time to time. "Back of book", Revenues, "Cinderellas", duty stamps and all kinds of other stamp like labels. Discuss them all HERE!

Is there any Australian States Railway Stamps station names listing?

Post by adam78 »

With various Australian states' Railway stamps having the station name printed on them, similar to New Zealand's overprinting, has anyone created a listing of the known stations, per state and issue??

No doubt there are many more stations in Australia than NZ's listing, but still.

The next step from a listing is some form of scarcity rating...

There used to be a pretty hand Railway stamp cat by Craig and Ingles - maybe published 1970s or 1980s .... but did not think even they got into the endless station names!

QLD issued them into the 1990s with station names.

About 30% in total actually issued stamps. This started in 1915 and continued until the stamps were phased out in the 1990's.

Elsmore has a listing someplace. I have an Excel sheet attributed to Dave.

I see the RPSNZ library holds the 2nd edition of the Queensland listing, and Dave Elsmore's NSW station listing is here
https://www.ozrevenues.com/Articles/nsw-railway-station-names.html
but doesn't note which have stamps named for them.
Here in NZ there are definitely some "completists" who are trying to assemble collections of all known stations, and on as many values form the set as possible. They also seem to want the two main types of overprint as well. That's a lot of combinations, more if you add in perforation varieties and up/down or letterpress versions of the second type of overprint.

Craig & Ingles 1978 monograph The Revenue and Railway Stamps of Tasmania (1978) has this station name listing
TAS station names.jpg
A couple of years later The Railway (and other parcel) Stamps of Mainland Australia added
Brighton Junction (not rare), Heybridge (R2), Winnaleah (R2) and Zeehan (R1), where R2 is 31-100 copies estimated to exist and R1 is 101-300 copies.
No doubt in the intervening 24 years, more have surfaced.
