Questions re Australia 1950 8½d Aborigine, and KGV UK stamped envelope

Post by Mitch »

Hello Community

This is my first post so hopefully I’ll get it right. 🙂 I have 2 stamps I am looking for more information about. Can you please point me in the right direction?

1. Australia 1950 8 1/2d Aborigine
I have this stamp with a COA watermark per photos. Is this common? I found this stamp in SG Australian stamp catalogue but no mention of WMK.

2. King George V one penny stamped envelope. I’ve no idea if this is worth anything or where to get information. I’m aware of the different watermarks on this stamp but hesitant to remove the stamps to check the back of the postmarks are of any value. Both sides have the same addressee and address postmark dates 20 Dec 1932 and 22 Jan 1932.

Thanks Mitch

My catalogue clearly states that this stamp has the watermark you illustrate.

Hi Mitch,

Very nearly all good - one small point:

Please use the "Place inline" button when posting images to avoid the ugly white border with the word "Attachments" around every image.

Whichever watermark it is it is one of the commonest British stamps as it paid the basic postage rate for letters or postcards at different times.

So much better if they had used an8d stamp instead.

Indeed so.

The 1950 stamp is SG 238, Scott 226, and both catalogues mention the C of A watermark.

A similar but not identical design was issued in 1952 (SG 253, Sc 248) with the C of A watermark, and again in 1957 (SG 253b, Sc 303) this time unwatermarked.
