Thanks for that. I’ve seen the one you posted a few times but not the one I have. I agree they look similar enough to be a predecessor but frustratingly I can’t find too many details. Thanks again for the reply.

I picked up this sheet with the description of black and gold progressive proof for GB WWI cinderella army stamps, but cannot find the actual stamps anywhere. Does anyone know if these stamps exist and what they are please? Thanks

:) Nice post Red!

I have been in love with Claude's paintings since I first seen some of them in the Chicago art gallery.

The Art Institute of Chicago has a wonderful collection of Monet's paintings, including many of the Waterlilies, one of his favourite subjects even while his eyesight was deteriorating.

Thank you Roger for the clarification on that. It was indeed the Chicago Art Institute.

Some time I will post up some of the Monet stamps I have in my collection.

Ahoj everyone!

I just posted this 1920 Italian cover for sale on Delcampe. It has a 1917 WW1 Red Cross cinderella on the reverse. It seems to have attracted a lot of viewers.

Nice item Honza, thanks for showing it!
The style of the lettering is an attractive feature, and characteristic of the era.
Cinderellas are often hard to date, so on-cover usage is very useful for that reason,
and there are usually other pieces of relevant information that can be deduced from
the cover.

It is true but not the case with this Italian Red Cross stamp as its year of issue is part of the image: MCMXVII, which is 1917 in Roman numerals.

This was probably produced as a fund-raiser at the end of World War I by some group in Portsmouth, U.K.

But not one I have ever come across before. Anybody have more information on it?

Interesting that your Cinderella is bilingual in Italian and German, as the canoeing championships were held in the German speaking South Tyrol region of Italy.

Would it not be polite to include the language of the country in which it was held?

This amazing and unique "old style" documentary tells about WW World Champs held in 1983 in Passirio river, Merano, Italy. Boats and materials were far away from today's advanced standards. Unfortunately, today this part of the river is dead, litterally throttled by dams. https://vimeo.com/8367551

Thank you RevRed+ for the link to the documentary of the 1983 contest. From there I have found this one https://vimeo.com/8255835 about a 1965 competition: excuse me for the OT but seeing all the rocks spread in the river and the absence of any head protection device among the athletes has given me shivers.

Each of the ten stamps were printed in five distinct colour variants, meaning that if you are "everything" collector, you'll need to complete your "bingo card" of all the varieties ....

This Zombieland 'stamp' is based on a Nazi issue from 1938 and combines the symbolism of Putin’s “Russian World” ideology with that of Nazi Germany’s. Putin's pro-war Z symbol, which is acknowledged to be fascist-inspired and a cousin of the swastika, replaces the original swastika.

It is both a fundraising stamp – fundraising to support anti-war protest and Civil Rights in Russia – and a satirical artwork.

Plenty more swastika tattoos on those brave defenders of white Europe however.

Nice artwork though, you should have said it was yours first off. More ironical than satirical though. 😂

"Asian Runes & Man Cinderella label Block. MNG" isn't overly helpful, nor are the seller's other auctions which are a worldwide eclectic mix providing no obvious additional context.

Nice cinderella Honza!

Screen Shot 2022-09-19 at 1.17.15 am.png
The preprinted cover is to the Ice Cream Sales Manager of a company in Paris.
The Portuguese postage stamp is cancelled in Porto, apparently on 30 May (18)95, but the final digit of the year is unclear — at first I read it as 1899. Someone (perhaps a modern stamp dealer?) has added "1899" in manuscript on the left side of the cover. The Paris arrival date stamp on the back is apparently dated 1 June, but I can't discern a year.

The cinderella refers to 12-30 June 1895, so it would be redundant if the cover were not sent in time to promote the event, hence the Porto date stamp "must" be taken to be 30 May 1895.

The text of the cinderella is entirely in French, not Portuguese. As French was the leading "international" language in Europe, it's reasonable that tourism to Lisbon was being promoted in French, especially since this cover was being sent to Paris.

Found this info while searching for something else online...................
The Santa Claus Post appears to be of American origin, as seen on these postcards:

http://www.bonanza.com/listings/8-E...-al/14583895

Further explanation here:

C#8 is Santa Claus Post label. Most or all produced by Dennison, a commercial label maker. There is a catalog on this subject also. These are very desirable tied to postcard. Most come from panes that may only have several 'Santa Claus Post' seals and the rest would be Christmas labels. The catalog is written by Larry Hixon and last revised in 1990 (many items have been found since or earliest known dates changed) still it is very good basic information on a very interesting subject. These have a usage period from 1908 to 1920's but most found in 1908 through 1912.

Hi John A. Many thanks for that info. However, the link you quoted just gives me an error message?
It was more about the text below the link. I meant to delete that link, but forgot! Oops

Cover sent registered from Karl Marx Stadt in DDR to Austria, franked with part set issued to mark the 50th anniversary of October revolution and with SS contains two stamps of the set issued to publicize the stamp exhibition held to mark this anniversary event. It applied with commemorative postmark:

The back of the cover contains three Cinderella labels publicizing the exhibition and the anniversary event:

This was probably produced as a fund-raiser at the end of World War I by some group in Portsmouth, U.K.

But not one I have ever come across before. Anybody have more information on it?

Thanks, drh, glad you enjoyed it. Here is another DDR cover sent express from Pirna to Munich in West Germany franked with two definitive stamps:
DDR 1988 Definitive Pirna 1.jpg
On the back, two Cinderella labels. I received a friendly message from a collector from France with explanations about them. They were issued in 1987 by the German - Soviet Friendship Association to mark 70th anniversary of October revolution and 40th anniversary of the association. The labels are two of a long set of 25 shows mainly people and views from the different Soviet republics. You can see the complete set here:

Ahoj Eli!

A nice cover you could also post on the express letter thread.

It seems that a sorter in Munich thought the cinderellas were genuine stamps that had missed cancellation. He put them through the wavy-line machine canceller, but this largely missed them, so they were then hand-stamped with the special hammer used for 'nachträglich entwertet' = 'cancelled at a later date'.

Cheers,

Honza

Nice commentary, thanks honza!
I too was misled by the "20" on each cinderella, thinking it was a postal denomination.
The logo of the DSF appears in outline on each cinderella.
Here is the full colour version:
