I dropped in for a quick visit on the Saturday. As usual it was well organised, some of the better dealers were in attendance, plenty of club circuit books, great exhibits, a polar philately auction.

Really a nice expo all round in a good venue.

Thanks for those comments, Lakatoi 4. Sorry I haven't replied to your question sooner, Glenn. I'll have to check the site more often.

Report on Northern Beaches Stamp Expo 2007

The Expo was a great success. In my opinion, the best we've had since we started in 1996. I say that because the event seemed to be busy the whole time - we didn't have a quiet time until late Sunday afternoon when we were getting towards the close. Most visitors seemed to look at the 45 frames of exhibited collections and the dealers all said that they were happy.

Of the 9 clubs who put up 5 frames each in the competitive exhibition, The Society for Polar Philately took away the major prize - a framed set of the current Surf Lifesavers stamps donated by Australia Post. Each of the 5 exhibiting members also received a bottle of wine and a set of wine glasses.

The Best Individual Entry prize went to Warren Oliver for a frame of NSW Sydney Views.

The Exhibition Secretary, Ed Wolf, was particularly chuffed that 31 of the 45 entries had not entered the Expo before, and 8 were exhibiting for the first time. One objective of the event is to encourage "ordinary collectors" to try their hand at a public exhibit and it seems to have worked really well this time.

Manly-Warringah Market Day

Post by Graeme Morriss »

Regular Stamp Market Day Coming Up

Just a reminder to everyone that Sydney's most frequently-held club-run stamp market day is rolling round again.

Venue: Car park building opposite the Manly-Warringah Rugby League Club, corner of Pittwater Road and Federal Parade, Brookvale.

Quarterly Market Dates

Saturday 17 November 2007
Saturday 15 March 2008
Saturday 14 June 2008
Saturday 16 August 2008
Saturday 15 November 2008

A smaller stamp market is held in the same venue on the first Saturday of every month except January.

All market days start at 10.00 am and run to 4.00 pm, with a public sale-by-tender at 2.30 pm (bring your lots - 10% commission).

At least four stamp clubs and four private dealers are present on every market day. As these events have been going for over twenty years they are always well-attended and provide a great low-cost outlet for your stamp sales.

Hi Graeme

This sounds like a good day on 17th. Hope you don't mind but I also crossposted your message to the current thread on the Fisher's Ghost Stamp Fair which is on this week -that thread is currently getting a lot of traffic and posts so thought it would catch some extra attention there. Hope its a great day.

Cheers

Dear All,

It is about a week after I posted the club's February Bulletin above and there have been 379 viewings of this thread!

I would welcome any feedback - even constructive criticism, politely expressed. Who are all these people viewing the thread? Why do they do it? What do they gain from it? How would they improve it? Do they live locally and can I con them into joining the club?

Either use the reply function to comment publicly or send to my email below if you prefer to be private (put something like "Bulletin comment" in the email subject line so my spam filter doesn't toss it).

By the way, even the editor of a small club newsletter has trouble filling the pages with something interesting. Suitable articles for inclusion solicited (but please don't be offended if I don't use it - an editor has to use his discretion).

Thank you all for your interest and call me!

Graeme: Thanks for sharing your nicely written and illustrated newsletter from "down unda'" (hey, I'm up here across the entire Pacific ocean). Condolences on your club's loss of long-time member Mr. Knight.

Our society publishes its newsletter with approximately 6 pages, monthly albeit with black and white illustrations.

The only suggestion I might offer is to solicit articles from your club officers (ie: President and/or Librarian if you have one). In this endeavor you'll be able to pass along some of the responsibility to others, get them involved and engaged and give yourself a bit of 'room' as well.

Keep up the great work
Kim.......

Thanks, Kim.

I don't have too much trouble getting articles from other office bearers - when I go out and "twist their elbows" as we say down here. But I'm always looking for variety from elsewhere.

Have you posted your club's newsletter here? I'll have a look for it. Have you published any articles recently that you think might interest our members?

Thanks again,

Graeme

Newsletter Access

Post by Kim »

Graeme: the short answer is 'no', I haven't posted our Society's newsletter directly onto the Stampboards website. However, our esteemed webmaster Mr. Frans Geerlings does post said newsletters in pdf format on our website:
www.salemstampsociety.org

In addition to the current, monthly newsletter, there are the past couple of months available for viewing.

enjoy!

p.s. check our our nifty triangular stamp logo Frans designed.

Hi Graeme
It was great to talk to you the other day - pleased to see that yet another human has mastered Photobucket

One of the added benefits of posting your newsletters on Stampboards, as I do for The Campbelltown District Philatelic Society, is the provision of philatelic interest being made available to enthusiasts who are unable to attend club meetings and do not in fact belong to any organised society.

I have just mailed out to 16 postal members copies of our Jan-March newsletters, so I know that there is a demand for collectors who do not attend club meetings.

It is truly great to see so much honorary support given to fellow stampers in what is a friendly and mutually supportive hobby.

Brian

Hi, Brian.

Yes, good to talk to you on the 'phone, too. I hope that I can make it to Fisher's Ghost at Campbelltown this year so we can meet face-to-face.

Thanks for checking out this thread - your advice on posting the newsletter here a few months ago was very useful. I hope you think the result is worth it.

Thanks very much to Glen and Margot for coming along last night. We had a great dinner and Glen's talk on the best methods of storing your stamps and an overview of Stampboards' monitoring of fraudulent Ebay stamp vendors was an eye-opener to most members. A few will probably now join Stampboards.

Sorry you couldn't make it, Tony and Kev. Any Stampboarder welcome to any meeting - let me know you are coming and we can have dinner beforehand.

This is our draft programme for 2015. We would really like Sydney-based collectors to come along - especially after we merge in May 2015. We are a very active but relatively small club and would very much like to see new people. Feel free to visit - no obligation to join.

Come and check us out at our annual New Year's Fair this Saturday, 10th January. Details at:
