Italian Philatelic Society (Circolo Filatelico Italiano) Vic

Post by ivanhoe »

I am the treasurer of the club that has been around since 1977.

The club meets once a month on the 2nd Monday of the month 7.30pm at the Abruzzo Club in Lygon St Brunswick VIC.
Mail address CFI, PO Box 166 Niddrie VIC 3042

The club has theme evenings with member displays. An annual competition for the Brombara Trophy and shield. Also an annual Christmas dinner.

Each meeting we have a bottle raffle and an auction of member lots.

Members speak Italian but English is also spoken.

Collecting themes by members goes beyond Italian stamps into all collecting themes.

On what Italian stamps is featured Trajan's Column, besides the one issued a few days ago?

Beats me. I don't tend to go into such minutae. A search of any good Italian catalogue will give you the answer.
There are probably members in the club that would have this information.
I personally don't collect new Italian issues.
All the best.

Melissa
I have contacted the secretary of the club for some information regarding your grandfather, this is his reply:
Hi Joe,
the only thing that I know about the Brombara Trophy is that it was named after Emilio Brombara after his passing.
I think he was one of the founders of the Club in 1977
I know Bruno Caramarco ( ex president ) knew him well and maybe he could give more information to this person,
his phone number is - 9350 1685
I could supply a photo of the trophy if interested, let me know
Regards, Frank
I had this scan of the initial founding attendance register but cannot see the Brombara name.

I hope that this has been of some use to you, if I find anything further I will let you know.

Here is a photo of the Brombara Cup (normally referred to as The Brombara) our annual stamp competition trophy. If you want you can contact one of the founding members of the club, and still an active member Domenico Biviano. (you can get his number from me at my email address [email protected]).
All the best and if new information comes up I'll let you know.

Recently our secretary and long time member of the club past away after a long illness. Frank Franchi will be missed, he was an avid collector and very enthusiastic in the hobby. VALE

That is a sad thing.

I see that Domenic Biviano attended your first meeting. He is a regular attendee at Brighton Philatelic Society meetings at 92 years young.

Postmarked in red Villagio Viccari - 1st June 1986.

What is this postmark, it doesn't appear to be an official Australia Post postmark or is it? :D
