A hot new collecting area.

I've sold 25 of the "Ashes" for $130 each and they are a recent issue.

I like the way the Americans are issuing First Day mintage coins in pnc's. It's the way PNC's first started and I could only imagine the interest if the mint did the same here.

Brain wasn't working to well late last night,
The round sheet is peel and stick. Ever tried getting the stamps and boarder off a $5 booklet in one piece.
Try doing one of these
I think this sheet is one of the few that WCS has not made a cover for.

Hi Debbie,
Welcome to the forum.

I got tired of the mints making pnc's with $5 coins which is all we have had for a while up to this year.
There have also been fakes on ebay with people getting old AP covers and sticking coins in them. Be careful of any AP cover before 1994 that is a "never seen before pnc"

Another pnc "c" mm which has the new bridge stamp from the country to coast set.
It has the FDI dated cancel
This $1.95 stamp that cannot be used for postage in Australia is being used at the Sydney Stamp Expo for a range of AP items instead of a lower priced 50c stamp that can be used

Hi Glen,
I can see this thread getting very long because of some ratbag posting a lot of pics
Can the PNC topic become a sub topic under numismatics so we can add different posts to rather than just one big one.
Thanks

Circular Aust Post stamps

Post by Geoff Sherrington »

Glen,

Re Circular stamps,

To my knowledge the first was from Soccer in Australia mini sheet issued 9.5.2006 4.1 dollar Multicolour perf13.86 x 14.60 ASC2065 as found in about 2 minutes on my CD.

While the sheet was round, the stamps were not.

The only round stamp is the YOP above

My local post office has a few of us on a list that they set aside for. Spoke with him yesterday ..'see you next wk' ..so Im presuming the Australia Post Offices will still get their usual.

The PNC postmark is advertised in some places as being a Swanbourne one (small suburb where the SAS Barracks are) whether that has complicated things?

Special Air Services PNC

Post by Geoff Sherrington »

I ordered a couple of these from Aust Post Philatelic and they did not advise sold out.

I ordered them sight unseen, just from the name, hoping that they represented an improvement in sending Air mail letters at Special rate and improved Service. (I joke).

I have quite a few earlier PNCs if anyone is buying.

Cheers Geoff.

Darn

Post by Geoff Sherrington »

I had a full collection of all the 25 or so official PNCs until recently.

Seems like after I sold it and quite a few odd ones, up to $us 195 a single, interest has started to increase again.

But I think I was one of the early people to put Glen onto the PNC as a goer and that's a comfort. For Glen.

And Glen, you helped publicise my CD of Australian stamps, for which I thank you again. We could combine into an outfit at this rate. But who was on the receiving end of the 100 freebies I sent you?

Now I shall have to use my forecasting powers again to present the next fast mover in Australian Philately. I must stock up first.

Did you hear about the clairvoyant with Alzheimer's who used to foget about predictions before they really happened? I feel that sort of mood coming on.

My local PO (shich is a Licensed PO) doesn't have any PNC's, although they have a philatelic display and all the usual things for sale. He hadn't heard of the SAS one. Maybe it's only the bigger PO's that hold stock?

SAS PNC

Post by Geoff Sherrington »

Bought 2 SAS PNCs on Thursday 6 Sept from Donvale 3111 PO routinely. The had an initial stock of 5. Ordered 2 more from AP Philatelic beforehand and expect no problems. No worries mate.

So here's my prediction for the next big mover. The 'Treasures from the Archives' sheets of 10 jumbo stamps. Series I (2 pound red roo) and series II (First NSW stamp in blue) already have been released, in Januaries from memory. I'd be looking out for series III if it comes in next Jan.

If anyone has for sale an IMPERFORATE sheet of series 2, please let me know.

Cheers Geoff Sherrington.

Found a very interesting version of the SAS pnc.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/2007-SAS-PNC-50TH-ANNIVERSARY-DOUBLE- ... QQrdZ1QQcm

While youre there check out the other items.

Does AP ever do things like this? (can hardly call 40 an accident/fluke)
The others are described as private covers but this isnt.

The 2nd postmarks are much darker on all the items...

It is no error
If you add a stamp you can get the extra cancel

.The darker postmark was done at the PO where as the normal one it the production one from melbourne.
You can also send them into the PB with the stamp and they will do it in the case of national postmarks.

I did it with the ashes cover with the extra Tab mini sheet stamp.

Can you believe the converted apec AP fdc's getting $200 for something you can do yourself for $5.

I did not expec Sherwood(Downies) to do this type of thing but in a boom market !!

Thanks for that info,

Excuse the ignorance but what is BP?
I can understand getting extra cancels on the day at the post office but how do you organise the national postmarks?
And can you get things postdated? (I mean if you are using a FDC or newly issued stamps is there a time frame when things have to be cancelled by)

Your covers are magnificent. This is a really creative art form using 2 usually concrete items,.. and its legal AND can be value adding. :D
