1. When and how did you start stamp collecting?

Apparently, in reading through some of these entries, I am among many who started collecting as a child, discovered more interesting things as a teen, then in my old age after inheriting my mother’s collection, dug out my old one and am currently reviving the hobby. Problem is, I’ve missed 50 + years of stamps.

2. What Countries or topics do you primarily collect?

United States mostly, but very much enjoy a general world-wide collection, as well.

3. What is your favorite country or topic to collect?

I like covered wagon stamps. Pioneer stuff like Oregon centennial.

4. How many hours a week do you spend on this hobby?

About 15 hours, give or take.

5. What are some of your other hobbies or pastimes?

Bible study every morning when it’s quiet around the house and until recently, I collected board games. Also watch a lot of TV.

6. What is your favorite movie?

Toss up between The Goonies and The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

7. What is your favorite stamp?

U.S. 11 cent red liberty.

8. What is your favorite food?

That’s a tough one, but I think my favorite foods are meat (beef!) and potatoes.

9. Do you have a major stamp dislike? If so, what is it?
Nope. Don’t think so.

10. What is your professional background?

Retired from retail and wholesale sporting goods.

11. What one person, dead or alive, would you like to meet?

I plan on meeting Jesus one day.

12. What is your favorite TV show?

Current favorite: reruns of “Scorpion.”

Researching certain stamps on-line.

14. What is one thing you always have in your refrigerator?
Mayonaise

15. Who is your favorite musician?

My immediate reaction to this is “Bleeding Gums Murphy.” But recently I’ve been on-line researching a band from the 60s called “Unit 4 Plus 2.” Underrated but good music.

16. If you won the lottery, what stamps would you buy?

Don’t think I’d buy stamps. I have too much fun with the collection as is. Maybe buy a bunch of new albums.

stallzer wrote: 25 Aug 2011 06:37 1. When and how did you start stamp collecting? Started in the 1970's when you could buy Stamps from the back of Comic books. Stopped and restarted again in 2010 when I inherited my Grandmother's collection.

I remember those ads. I started reading comics when you could buy them for a dime each and the ads were very intriguing. Not only could you get stamps on approval (I almost always forgot to send them back and Mom had to pay for them), but you could send for a book on how to build your muscles and attract girls, buy x-ray glasses, purchase "Grit" magazine or send for things to sell door to door to make gobs of money. Good old days, right?
