Member Number 15,000 was “Vexillophile” - whose intro post today - common to SO many new members here, was -
“Recently returned to stamp collecting after some time away from the hobby, and looking to expand my collection and knowledge here.”
Take a look at the new member posts in just the past couple of days – and take 10 seconds to personally welcome “Vexillophile” and all the others - YOU were warmly welcomed when you joined up after all!
We have members in recent days posting there from - Finland, South Africa, Philippines, Australia, Lithuania, Germany, Slovenia, Czech Republic, UK, USA and Canada - perfectly underscoring the truly INTERNATIONAL Community we have built here.
15,000 members make us easily the largest Stamp Bulletin Board on this planet, and we keep growing steadily. To attract MORE members please suggest your stamp friends sign up, and THEY too then have a great chance of winning this $1,700 type cover! – THEY can sign up free here - https://stampboards.com/ucp.php?mode=register - and have unlimited chances to win a VERY valuable prize.
THE PRIZE - This Registered cover was mailed from Adelaide in January 2016, to Mildura Victoria. “So What” many reading this might think?
If you can't afford $4,000 to buy one - or didn't get of the $1.80 face value sets of less than a month back, HERE is your chance to get in on the act! It has risen in price to TWO THOUSAND times face - https://www.tinyurl.com/4000CPS
The cover has one of the genuinely RARE “Emergency” stamps on it. These 30c “Adelaide 2016” stamps were sent for 2 days by the Adelaide GPO to suburban Post Offices, to allow the public to uprate their existing 70c stamps to the new $1 rate, that AP hiked postage up 40% to, on January 4.
Adelaide GPO had no 30c stamps when this last minute rate hike occurred, so they took this Counter Printed Stamp (CPS) machine out of storage, and ran off a few 1000 x 30c stamps to weather the immediate shortage.
It was a genuine Postal operational EMERGENCY issue. No warning or advice to collectors was ever given, and these stamps sold out in days, and NO philatelic sales were ever made. On January 8, the 30c Crocodile stamps arrived into the GPO from Melbourne, so these 30c CPS were not reprinted, and were all sold out anyway.
Mint strips of 10 have sold on ebay for $A2,800 (near $US2,000!) - https://www.tinyurl.com/Strip2800. A plain looking cover to Melbourne bearing, like this one - a 30c Emergency stamp, and a 70c, sold on ebay this week for $A1,700 - for an unbelievable $1,700 to a medico - https://www.tinyurl.com/30cEnv with 67 frantic bids! Seller was paid immediately.
This single below used on a snipped off envelope corner has just sold for $2,025 - https://www.tinyurl.com/CPS2025– and attracted 36 frantic bids.
Demand for this "Australia 2016" material is WHITE hot. I arranged to be mailed from Adelaide, a set on similar covers to Russia, to the Commander of the orbiting “ISS” MIR Space Station, who is a keen collector and ordered them!
This “Emergency” stamp issue has attracted GLOBAL publicity already - in “Linns Stamp News” in the USA - https://www.tinyurl.com/Linns30c , in blogs in many countries, in all capital cities here via the huge Fairfax and News Limited websites and newspapers etc. I and others have done many radio and press interviews on it, including this recent 11 minute one on Australia's highest rating station - https://www.2gb.com/audioplayer/152241
ALL great for the HOBBY. When was the last time ANY stamp new issue got such massive and positive world exposure? Such high prices pique interest of the public.
Stampboards of course, as usual, broke the news globally FIRST on - https://www.tinyurl.com/2016set - and 320 posts later, it is still on top of all the action. Check it out. Many members here bought sets at $25 a week or two back - off dealers, that are now $4,000, so it PAYS to follow stampboards closely! A HUNDRED fold price increase from dealer price, within just days is unheard of. "You Snooze - You Lose".
So this issue is HOT. No new issue stamp set in the history of the PLANET has been selling for 2000 times the PO issue prize within a month - except this one.
If you missed out, NOW is your chance to get your part of this blockbuster new issue - FREE!
Add a "Like" and a "Share" to all your stamp buddies on our Facebook page NOW - we are over 1,900 "Likes" as I type this! Much more detail there - https://www.facebook.com/stampboards
And YOU can win a superb looking registered cover in this FREE competition. I made a donation to a Charity to secure this cover, and here it is for all to win.
If you win, and do not collect modern material, I am sure several reading this will contact me with a hefty offer to pass on to you, for the envelope, if you care to part with it! Email me with offers to pass on, by all means.
Mailed from the Torrensville Plaza Post Office, in the inner Adelaide city suburb of “Mile End” it is Registered, and has a nice clear Torrensville SA cancel of “January 24 - 2016” and a lovely clear mail centre transit spray ink jet cancel of January 27. The Post Office online tracking data for it is shown, and proves the date sequence. Unlike non Registered mail this data cannot be created or faked, or be backdated, like a PO counter cancel can etc!
The cover has the usual vertical long bar string of orange spray sorting codes at base of front and back. And best of all, has the Fluoro yellow arrival and collection reminder schedule sticker of Mildura Post Office in Victoria. 105% genuine passed thought the mail cover, and with a clear and undoubted JANUARY 2016 date, that is the KEY. Visually stunning, and clean and flat as you can see, and YOU can own it!
Is this $1 cover worth $1,700, just because another $1 cover got $1,700 on ebay? Well "how long is a piece of string"! It is what it is, and we can assign no specific accurate monetary value to it of course, as this one, or none like it, has never been auctioned, but a DARN nice prize for the winner, as even single stamps NOT on Registered cover, are getting $500 apiece!
To celebrate our 15,000th member, here is your big chance to win a VERY valuable cover. Totally FREE!
And that number of course CAN start in zero.
History shows us this thread will get to many 1,000s of posts very fast.
So post NOW, and post often - or miss your chance! There are NO limits on how many times you can enter.
How is the winner determined? Quite simply - Wall Street will tell us! 8)
We simply will look at where the Wall Street Dow Jones Index (D.J.I.) finishes at end of trading in New York on Monday February 22, 2016. Therefore I can't be accused of rigging things! The last five (5) digits is what we look at.
The last posting can be made an hour before Wall Street closes on that day. Anything guessed and posted after that is invalid.
i.e., if Wall Street closes at 16,216.54 - the last 5 digits or 21654 makes the stampboard member who first posted 21654 on the thread the WINNER!
The site we will use to verify the Wall Street final 5 digits, as regards to accuracy (some newspapers or servers round number up or down to nearest decimal) is as it will be shown daily on Yahoo finance - https://finance.yahoo.com/?u
So if Wall Street ends on 16,216.54 - whomever first posts number 21654, or the closest guess above that number is the WINNER.
ANYONE can win ..... all Moderators included - except myself. It is a totally random 5 digit number that Wall Street will reveal to us that day. None of us has any way to influence that number in advance.
The FIRST member to post the correct number will be our winner. If 2 members type the correct number, the FIRST one to do so, shall be the winner.
Type ONLY 5 numerals - no spaces or periods or commas - simply 21654 etc - as otherwise the final audit of winner will be impossible. All other entries are deeded invalid. Add commas etc, and you are disqualified or DQ, so fair warning.
EVERY post you make within this thread moves your member count up one.
If you for instance only have 15 posts now - you will get an Aqua Star at 25 posts, a very neat Black Ninja Star at 50, and a classy RED star at 100 etc. You can readily achieve all those in a a few minutes on just one thread, and maybe win something worth many $100s whilst doing it.
You can make 10 or 50 or 100 or 1000 posts in a row if you wish ... it greatly increases your chances ..... so go for it!
We had over 100,000 entries in our "Millionth Post" thread -
The Judge's decision is final on any disputes .... and guess who the Judge is here.
In the very remote case the Wall Street number is NOT selected by anyone - the NEXT closest number above it posted here, shall be deemed the winner.
i.e. if 21654 is the last 5 digit Wall Street finish, and is not found posted after a search, then next highest digit 21655 is the winner. ... or the next number above that which IS posted here - it might be 21667 for instance etc, etc. We can search for numbers easily here, via the on board search engine.
All very simple to isolate and scrutineer, using the forum specific search functions here. And in the past the MEMBERS sort out fast who won very quickly, and post that on this thread for others to agree with - or disagree!
Let the fun begin - as they say at Indianapolis -
"gentlemen .... start your engines".
