They are actually UPloading to imgur in minutes. As I reported on the other thread I was able to upload nearly 100 in one batch and in abt 3 minutes.

I upload mine in batches of about 20 or so every few hours and now have no problems.

Thank God for them though, its been great to go through and clean up some of my better moments here, not just restoring images, but improving some, more detail and eliminating spelling and grammar errors.

I uploaded my first 'stamp page' images on to Imgur - no problem.

I uploaded some travel photos from Xi'an. Added some descriptions just like I do on Stampboards. Posted it. IT WENT VIRAL :!:

I've had over 100,000 views in around 12 hours! Who needs MessedupBucket! I'm an internet star

I'm ScotsmanAbroad on Imgur too if you want to check it out. I'll start editing my Stampboards pages this weekend too.

On a different note, I'm struggling to access photobucket. Even trying to view pics in my account is getting me the ransom photo.

I'm still able to view all the images in my PB account...but the "download album" function isn't working...I've tried it a few times on a few different days, and it goes nowhere...I get the "I am not a robot" button to click, and hit download...and then the site doesn't actually do anything.

Same for me, what a total mess. Luckily I have only a few images, and all of them should be somewhere on my computer.

Likewise.

I checked a "site traffic" website & according to its statistics, daily visits to photobucket are down between 15% & 20% since they introduced this ransom.

Hi Uncadonego

Firstly - have you followed the step by step IMGUR tutorial? http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=53532

Are you using it from a desktop/laptop or mobile device?

What operating system are you using?

Are you trying to load a website image or something saved to your own device/computer?

This occasionally happens to me when I'm loading multiple images- best to log out and log back in before retrying.

Anyway forward this info and we'l see if we can troubleshoot from afar....

I'm referring to Photobucket not letting me download my folders. It fails or freezes over and over and over. It's SurrenderWare. They hope you give up and just pay.

I got the same email.
100,000,000 to 3,000,000 is quite a drop in members if that's what they mean.

And this is from the current Wikipedia page:

"On September 13, 2017, Denver Better Business Bureau gave the company an "F" rating, the worst they issue, citing fifteen complaints related to the change in terms and no response from the company."

And it would appear that for now, or forever, you cannot download your albums anymore. I did so about 2 months ago without trouble. For the last 3 days tried once each day, fought my way past all the clickbait, pop-ups and video adds till I could finally actually click on 'download my album' only to receive the oops can't do it response.

There seems more chance of Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un having a hug and sharing a pizza than Photobucket caring enough to fix the mess they have made for millions of once happy members, including those that had paid memberships.

I think 'almost certainly will be removed'

First they asked me for an exhorbitant amount of money to host approximately 30 scans I had exclusively used in stampboards. Then they offered a princely $10 discount. Then exhorted me to join up along with the other 3 million to give me a preview to some futuristic but unspecified 'next generation photobucket service'.

Yesterday an email offering some shop service advertising gift cards!

Result of all this is that they are still providing bandwidth for the images - miniscule as it may be.

Multiply my reaction by 97 million and it is a no-brainer to suggest they need to do something pretty quickly.

In the middle of all this I did a survey for them telling them I had an issue with price. Another survey asking what price I would be prepared to pay would have been intelligent behaviour (I would have thought).

Even if they had looked at the size of my account and asked me (politely) for even $30 per annum to continue I most certainly would have agreed! Multiply that by 97 mill .......

Ah well, back to resurrecting the photobucket-wrecked "train spotting" thread.....

I repeat this as some clearly have not read it -

Folks, EVERY member, and certainly EVERY volunteer here, should immediately click on these links and install these instant add-ons -

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/photobucket-hotlin ... apbifiaedg

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/photobucket-fix

These cunning codes then let you "see" every blocked Photobucket image, making the saving of them 10 times faster!

Can't see if any such clever hacks for IE/Edge or Safari exist if so - add them here please.

With the add-on I can now see images in glorious technicolor but saving (other Member's) images is very "hit and miss"- sometimes just saves "wheel of death", sometimes a blank file and sometimes the image. Sometimes using "F5" helps, sometimes it doesn't!

Any (pleasant) suggestions?

Re: Photobucket now blanking out images unless paid $525 a y

Post by Global Admin »

For those of us like me, who always did the right thing, and supported them over many years, via a PAID for Photobucket account in the past, I just got this rather Pidgin English warning below today -

Until NOW, all the 10,000s of images from myself and Margo's separate paid account all showed here fine - everywhere on the board. In a month they too will be Ransom Wheel victims.

If these Morons had simply asked all members who posted images on Bulletin Boards etc, to sign up for the same 'Plus 20 PRO' plan we had - I think it was $US29.99 a year - most of them would have, hence almost no loss of face of clients to photobucket, and a vast ocean of money rolls in - FAR more than they ever got from the $525 ransomware Gangsta demand they decided upon, with no advance notice.

So we must pay the $525 or no-one can see our images - no other lower cost option. CRAZY.

Photobucket had over 100 MILLION unique registered members, who had loaded more than 10 billion images. Even if only HALF paid up $US29.99 a year, we are talking $US1.5 BILLION dollars instant revenue a year. AND higher, and better grade ad revenue too! WIN-WIN.

This will go down along with "The New Coke" as the dumbest American Corporate Decision for some decades. Photobucket will be totally out of business in a year I predict - all over this one dopey move.

Some members here paid the $525 ransom - as one member put it, he had 1000s of ebay listings using PB as the image base, and that needed 100s of hours work to swap over, that so he paid, and for all future new listings he will use someone else. In a year most of the past ones have sold, and he drops PB, and many current payers of the $525 Photobucket Ransom will copy him, so their revenue going forward is near zero. No ad revenue, and no user revenue. Clever stuff!

Their ALEXA rating has fallen a massive 800 positions so far, and their ad revenue will have dried up near totally. Brilliant master plan.

They have needed to stoop to accepting the lowest level of ad content - and Wikipedia reports they now have excessive pop-up ads, scams, clickbait advertisements, and in some cases viruses embedded in ads.

Photobucket are based in Denver Colorado, and the Better Business Bureau there had a number of complaints re this Ransom move to which photobucket repeatedly refused to respond, and the BBB gave them their lowest Corporate rating possible - an "F".

This is today's missive, written in almost English -

That looks more reasonable, but no inducement to return.

But it is a realisation that they may have realised like the Sheriff said, "Gangsta" demands do not work.

I am not going from imgur, it is much better and given me no grief at all!

That is the way I read that.

But if you want upload a stamp or cover to "Show or Discuss" on Stampboards that will be ok.

$US99 ($A133) is still too much. It is also an introductory offer so what price next year :?:

They CLEARLY say that is the case.

That will still cost you $US399 a year to do.

$99? They can shove that.

Go to Bluehost.com and for less than that you can have your own domain, unlimited bandwidth and unlimited storage, etc etc etc for what is it, like $72 a year? I happen to use bluehost for some things and like them but I am sure there are many other companies that do the same thing for comparable money or less.

And most importantly, you're not supporting a company with nasty business practices, and that is extremely important to bear in mind.

See, if you DO sign up for a paid account with photobucket then you are validating and rewarding their behavior. It's like one of my sleazeball competitors; they advertise cars for pricing that they cannot do, but buried in the fine print is "price plus tax, tag, dealer fees and dealer installed options if any". They advertise a new car that stickers for $22,000 for $15,995. When you get there it has a sticker showing $995 for a pinstripe, $995 for fabric protection, $995 for paint protection, $995 for door and wheel arch edge guards. On top of that they charge a $1,495 dealer prep fee. So they're $21,500 for a car I will sell all day long for $20,000. But people will then haggle and realize that they're still at the same price we were at after an hour or two of torture and they buy there anyway because the price is about the same anyway.

And that is EXACTLY why they do what they do, because it works and because consumers reward the lousy behavior.

According to https://www.similarweb.com/website/photobucket.com monthly visits to PB fell from 46.4 million in July 2017 to 23.8 million on Dec 2017, a near 50% fall in traffic.

Congratulations to the management at PB, who have machine gunned themselves in the feet.

And how many of those visits are merely from people trying to get their photos out and leave forever.

I would like to know how many paying customers they have left and how many will sTay on after their first year of ransom payment. There is a fair chance many will have found a better option.

Reminds me of ticketting to most shows, concerts and exhibitions now. You pay a price for the ticket and they add on all these fees like 3% Service charge, 3% Processing, $10 venue fee, 2 - 4% Card surcharges, $10 ticket printing or pick up fee and even ticket insurance. This drip pricing needs to stop.

Same with sites like Viagogo where people are pressured into buying tickets at mark up prices and then only add the 28% commission fee at point of payment, and half the time the tickets are fake. This happened here with a Bruno Mars concert and now with celine dion, all the tickets sold out in seconds, but reappeared on Viagogo at marked up prices.

And with stamp auction houses, that whack on outrage buyers premiums of up to 25% more, postage and handling and insurance and then card fees on the price of goods. Every auction you have to fry your brains working out the true cost.
