I just came across this website which has many articles on weird recently issued stamps. Turns out there are a lot more stamps like this than I originally thought.

The 1904 Serbian 'death-mask' stamp might find a place here. Some users found a face when the stamp was turned 180 degrees and thought to see the death mask of the recently assassinated King, Alexander I, it was withdrawn from sale:

Well that's certainly interesting. How many of those were issued, and how many would you say are out there now? (Having been withdrawn from sale I assume many would have been destroyed as well?)

I am not really sure, I got that information from the Illustrated Encyclopedia on Stamps and Coins (p 167). It does not mention for how long they were in circulation, it must have been for a while though as they are listed in Scott #79-86 and have a CV of about $10.00.

Or you can buy them here for $5.00

The Serbian set was issued 8 Sept. 1904 and was valid
through the end of the year (Orthodox calendar; add 13
days for Gregorian calendar).

Quantities issued -

5P - 1,950,300
10P - 1,962,800
15P - 491,000
25P - 493,600
50P - 489,500
1D - 196,400
3D - 98,850
5D - 99,100

I'm not aware of any being withdrawn and destroyed.

Hockey hologram stamps. The banner names and player numbers change as you tilt it, and the action scenes on the stamps move. Sorry about the focus of the next two pics. I had to tilt it on the scanner to partially show the effect.

A little different to the stamps/covers etc in the other posts, but I thought this pair from Great Britain looked rather wacky:
