Brisbane Stamp and Coin Show - 9 & 10 November 2019

Post by Philip James »

Brisbane Stamp and Coin Show 2019 - 9 & 10 November 2019.

Collectors Club Queensland Inc. again looks forward to welcoming visitors to the Brisbane Stamp and Coin Show 2019. The show will be held on the weekend of the 9th and 10th November 2019 at the QSAC facility (old ANZ stadium or QE2 stadium), Kessels road, Nathan.

This year’s show will include:

• Free Admission.
• Queensland Philatelic Exhibition (in conjunction with Qld Philatelic Council Inc.)
• 24 Local, interstate and OS dealers. See ‘Brisbane stamp and Coin Show’ website.
• Sale of show cancelled merchandise - PNCs and Miniature sheets.
• LPO in attendance both days for AP merchandise and show postmark.
• Kiddies Corner providing stamp giveaways and (grand) parental respite.
• Expertizing by Mr Michael Drury and associates (Mobbor and Search4d).
• Collectors Flea Market on Sunday 10 November.
• Information ‘workshops’ with talks on Stamps, Coins and Exhibiting (Sunday).
• And importantly, easy access (no stairs) and free parking,
• And did I mention Free admission.

The show is run on a not for profit basis and this year the club proudly made a $2,000 donation to the Royal Flying Doctors Service, being the surplus proceeds from the 2018 show.

Puffin - It will be good to see you at this year's show again. A big thank you to Sunshine Coast Stamp Club for organising that bus, as well as Southport Afternoon Stamp Club for organising the bus from the Gold Coast. This makes a big difference to collectors that would not otherwise be able to visit.

Hi Ken

From past experiences

1. We get numerous requests for show items to be purchased by overseas, interstate buyers as well as those unable to attend in advance. (to curtail us having to answer the requests we have taken council and decided to only post once the show opens. Remember these sell out on the day itself)

2. There are 2 ebay sellers who snip the images of the website and post them as their own stock before the show even opens. This can be very misleading as we do not sell or deliver any of the show products before the show opens. Ebay refuses to remove these fake sellers.

We are trying to keep a record of past products on the website as a record for collectors.

Ken I hope this answers your questions. To the other collectors, do attend the show as you will be pleasantly surprised with this years choice of PNCs and mini sheets.

Thank you for allowing me to talk about my new book 1.00pm Sunday.

There will be made mention of the Queensland connection on the day.

Puffin - It was good to catch up with you at Ipswich annual Stamp Fair today. It is great to hear that you are catching the Sunshine Coast Club bus on Sunday 10 November.

Our thanks to Sunshine Coast for organising that bus. The buses from the Sunny Coast and Gold Coast are much appreciated and allows folk to attend the show that otherwise may not be able to do so.

Is there anywhere a list of the capital city philatelic shows for the year (ie 2020 now)? Is there such a thing as a national show? I hope, advanced age willing, to go to some philatelic events next year (and hopefully meet in person some stampboards folk), and it would be good to be able to think in terms of a timetable.

The venue chosen is centrally located. From the last 2 shows and feed back received, it is a great location for people who also live outside Brisbane, so we have no intention of going into the city where venues cost more than 3 times what we presently pay.

Another plus point is also there is free Parking and accommodation around the area, is not as expensive as the city. City venues have priced themselves out and are now affordable only for the big Corporate businesses.

This venue makes it more affordable, accessible for both the dealers and the everyday collectors to attend. So if you are a local do make the effort to attend and see what a difference this show is to the shows of yesteryear.

Cheers....Troy

Troy ... of course that makes perfect sense to anyone who has ever needed to cost one of these things.

The usual few unhelpful geniuses, who right on cue, always state they "might" have attended if it were held at ''X'', always contribute zero, and never attend anyway generally no matter what ''X'' you choose.

Thanks goodness for the core of hard-working organisers like you for these shows, who DO make things happen, via 100s of hours of behind the scenes work, not the whiners who add nothing, in either time or support.

In capital cities, city venues cost an insane figure. Adelaide gets super lucky with the Drill Hall deal opposite Adelaide Oval and Entertainment Centre, where the national STAMPEX 2019 will take place in a month, that we are flying down for.

https://apf.org.au/sa/adelaide-stampex-17/

The last Nationals way out at Hurstville Sydney last 2 times, and Flemington Race Course Melbourne last big show there, (Frank Pauer has signed the contract for next one) and their next big one being held there, illustrates that.

Hope it is a great show, and many stampboarders get along, and have an informal lunch or dinner, and do load some pix here, and amazed to see Fred Luis is still dealing - have not heard his name for years!

Ha! You can tell I am not a racing fan. :)

Yes Caulfield Race Course, and it has just been signed up for the next mega show.

Was a very good venue I thought, and readily accessible by car or public transport.

Yes, agree, Caulfield is a great venue, especially for regular public transport and course amenities.

For non Victorians, Flemington has excellent rail connections but on a special siding that only operates on horse race and show days. Couldn’t accommodate the Cup crowd without it.

The Australia post Ltd Edition arrived today. Hurrah! It was like another nail biting finish, since last year the product went missing in transit and arrived more than a week after the show.

Tomorrows product Qld time here it is still 10.56 Friday :)

Mini Sheet: Centenary of First Flight England to Australia with a Silver foil Embossed Mansfield LPO date cancel for each stamp on the Mini Sheet for 2019 Brisbane show. Foil numbered 1 to 100/100

PNC:Numbered 1 to 100/100. Vickers Vimy G-EAOU with a special commemorative $1 Great Air Race RAM coin and an Australia Post $1 stamp with the Vickers Vimy and Crew on the cover. It also has a beautifully illustrated Vickers Vimy inner Card. I think only 1% collectors actually open and see the card.

I will have these images loaded up on the website on Saturday.

Did I mention we are having a casual dinner at the Salisbury Hotel/Motel pub on Saturday night 7pm all welcome. Awards will be given out to the winners of the State Show. Even got a seniors menu or 30% off the regular menu so you can spend your saved cash at the show again on Sunday. They will keep the bar open till they ask us to leave.

I would like to say, also on behalf of Michael Drury and Search4d, how much we enjoyed the show this year and your wonderful hospitality.

It's a wonderful venue, I agree entirely with the discussion above, that it should not be held in the CBD. The only thing that is a little disappointing is that there is not quite enough room for everyone, and some dealers have to be placed on the 4th floor. All the dealers I spoke to were very happy, and in our role, we saw some amazing stamps. The highlights were probably two £2 roos. One was a Sperati forgery, ever rarer because it did not have the forged symbol on the back, so it was sold before he was caught. The other had not one, but two aspects that never been known to exist on that watermark.

I was able to find a few flaws for Puffin, but he complained because the only listed flaw was on a stamp with a precious postmark- Bil Bil. I ask you, what sort of a place name is that? And I'm sorry I missed you Waffle. I hope you enjoyed the sausage sizzle. And, by the way, I can still taste soap.

Thanks again to all the organisers including Rick, with the silent P.

Yes it is good but the lighting above the exhibits was poor last time & made viewing difficult.

WINNER & RUNNER UP IN THE LAIRY SHIRT COMPETITION.
Front. Winner Michael Drury and behind him runner up Mike Robinson (alias Mobbor). Apparently this pair know something about KGV stamps. They got to see the famous Bli Bli postmark. See above.
The guy with the boring blue shirt might well be Richard Juzwin. :)

Puffin,
Thank you for posting the pictures of what was an enjoyable show - even for the organisers.

We will see you at the Caloundra show this weekend - your home club.

I understand that you will be on the bargain table. Hopefully other stampboarders will also say hello to you there.

Puffin is quite 'priceless', but no doubt one of his club mates will offer to leave a 'small deposit' for him.

I had a fantastic time at the show and happily filled several gaps in my album. I love digging through stock to find little treasures.

Thanks so much to everyone who organised the show :D
Started collecting Commonwealth Australian stamps. Then Australian kangaroo flaws. Then Australian pre-decimal flaws. Have now got my eye on worldwide birds, animals, gardening/backyards and engraved beauties. Oh, and maybe volcanoes. Who knows what tomorrow will bring
