Wayne, why don't you just rotate it before you upload it?

One is a cover that resides on my computer showing the cover in a horizontal position. When I move it to the message it appears in the vertical position. Is there a way to "correct" this?"

The other is a scan of a single stamp and it posted in the correct position.
Adding the relevant link is of course pure basic common sense with such a query.

If you mean these 2, they look perfectly fine to me -

https://new.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=68&t=90642&start=95
My apologies for not sharing the link. As I mentioned, the cover is showing in a horizontal position on my computer but when I move it to the message it shows vertical, as it does in the link Glen provided.

When I scanned it, it was in a vertical position due to the size but I re-oriented it on my computer.

The single stamp I uploaded was scanned in the horizontal position and shows that way in the upload. I re-oriented the single stamp on my computer show it show upside down. When I uploaded the upside down image it shows right side up.

It appears the images I am posting are showing in their original scanned orientation not how I have manipulated them and saved them on my computer.

https://new.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=68&t=90642&p=6542630#p6542630 The 2 messages with the Morocco stamp at this link are different on my computer, one upright and one upside down yet both show upright on the posts.

Here are the 2 images uploaded here from ImageShack showing the 2 orientations on my computer.

I hope this makes sense to someone.

Without quoting the whole post on the image upside-down problem, this could be due to EXIF date in the image..., try removing the EXIF data from the image...

Wayne:

Can you provide the platform and application you are using to upload the images?

I know that it shouldn’t matter, but obviously it does.

I replied earlier about the issue from uploading from iPhone.

Looks very good:-

1. Search is very very good!!!

2. Added a variety of images and sizes using attachment upload which was very fast indeed. Biggest width upload was 1600

3. Only problem I could see is the large areas of white either side . Current Stampboards is full width on my 21" Imac using Chrome and latest OSX.

Is the Search down? I'm getting an error message:

Sorry, search could not be performed. More information about this failure has been logged in the error log.

I'm using Firefox, Windows 10. All I put in the search box was "Japan" (no quotes).

I'm using Firefox, Windows 10. All I put in the search box was "Japan" (no quotes).

I get 8,800 matches for Japan -try it and see - as Yuriy loaded a super powerful and super fast search Engine that most phpbB boards cannot support, but we now have the server grunt to do so, and BINGO - job done.

The huge transition of both servers and phpBB software seems to have gone super smoothly, and Yuriy in New York has very quickly and efficiently fixed a bunch of irritating little glitches the Mods have pointed out today, so all is sailing along like clockwork. :D

BRILLIANT being able to load huge images (below) direct from a laptop here! They are auto saved to the stampboards domain, and never again will photobucket, IMGUR, or IMGBOX or others give us any grief.

We now have over a MILLION stamp images here saved forever. I booked a very large server to host it all so we are good for keeps now.

All of this is only possible when we have a phpBB Whizz like Yuriy to assist - I am a Total Tech Trog, have no idea at all on this stuff, and have never even sent a text message. If it were up to my 'skills', we'd be using blunt chisels and sandstone tablets to post our messages here!

Yuriy truly deserves a few gallons of strong coffee, and a car load of pizzas for battling for ENDLESS hours on this over recent months, to make our FREE board 5 times better, more usable and more robust overnight. Several members have asked me for his PayPal address to send him a little personal "Thank You" for his amazing work here, to fund the strong coffee (or whatever!) and Pizzas, and I am sure he will not mind at all - yuriy [at] rusko.org (Think of it as your oblique Membership Fee.)

A brilliant job, it really was. These things look smooth and seamless now to the casual user, but this has been the project from Hell, with endless dramas I will not begin to share here, to get away from our previous hopeless web hosts, get the domains released and unlocked (WAY tougher than you'd imagine) find a solid and efficient and robust new one for our new servers, (also a TON tougher than you'd imagine) get all those ducks in a row somehow, and then to move our ancient and unsupported and often corrupted data base to the shiny and newest phpBB version, onto a clean new server, in exactly the format and look we wanted. :!:

Some of the older threads have [ centre ] or [/ centre ].

Makes me wonder if the centering code is different over here.

Of course, to centre or center – that is the question!

Edit: Just clicked 'submit' and the same old code still works. But see, for example, on the red text in Glen's first post here: https://stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10277

We are already looking into the CENTRE / CENTER small glitch.

We always used CENTRE and the Americans (and new software) use CENTER and there is our conflict. Yuri is writing a script to run over entire 6.5 million post database to transfer them all to same common value and in THEORY resolve all the coding issues we see.

Just one of today's little bushfires. :!:

Might be because the old board was not https and this new one is right from the start.

Normally you make the switch between http and https at the entry point at the web server for the outside world. And make that entry point always use https or add a rule to the web server that it will translate http into http.

The outside world will always see the https in that case. It looks like the old items are in someway going around the https part at the moment. Certainly worth to check this issue with the technicians.

If you embed an image (using [img] BBCode tags) with a URL that doesn't use SSL (http vs https), it will generate that insecure warning. All the old images are guilty of this. We're going to fix this soon by updating all the URLs.

There's also a more permanent future-proof fix that involves using an image proxy, which will permanently take care of this issue, but that requires installing new software and writing an extension. There are a few other things that are going to take precedence over that, so we'll call it a "future goal" :)

Yuriy - you probably thought of this or did this, but when I moved over to https I added a rewrite rule in the root .htaccess file.

That should take out the self hosted ones, not sure about remote ones. Just thought I would mention it.

Nice work on the new forum, many thanks :)

This is set up, or else all the local images would currently be broken :)

But it still shows the browser warning, because it has to insecurely access the insecure URL to be redirected to the secure one.

In this thread https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?p=6603476#p6603476 I noticed that the images shrink when quoted. I don't know if that is intentional or not. If it is intentional, then that is fine. If it is not, then it may be something that might need some changing of settings.

The reduction in size of larger images when quoted is, indeed, a "feature" of the new version rather than a setting that needs tweaking.

But you can always click on the reduced-size image to display it at its original size. Best to right click and "open image in new tab" or equivalent.

Agree - we had many cases where several posters quoted post upstream, all in the huge original size. Sometimes SEVERAL different members did.

That is distracting, seeing we can now go to huge 1024 sizes, 15% bigger than before, so as CMJ says, a lot of backroom Mod testing and discussion, led us to the current reduced in quote settings size.

All insecure embedded images should get automagically loaded through a local proxy server and become secure.

Please report any irregularities, which would include:

1) Images not showing up when they should.
2) Browser warnings about "insecure assets".

Here's a test of an insecure asset that should show up via the proxy:

There seems to be a glitch with the 'view your posts' feature.

For example when I click on that, it does not show the thread that I have started on this new board:

https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=90843

or threads that I have posted the first time with the new forum.

Anyone else has this problem?

Well spotted Aerogi.

The View your Posts option seems to take you to a list of all the threads you have posted on in order of the thread most recently posted on (by anyone).

If you go to your username on the top right of the homepage - click on your username then Profile you will see an option Search user’s posts - this gives you a list of your actual posts from the most recent to least recent.

Have done a retrospective search and View your Posts worked the same way on the old board so hasn't changed but I agree that the results you get with the Search user’s posts would be more useful when you select View your posts which is so easily accessible on the top right of every page next to View new posts

eg Currently my View your posts shows a list of threads recently posted on by others which I have posted on in the (often distant) past:

View new posts Margoz
View new posts Margoz

My Search user’s posts shows threads I've actually posted on in the past couple of days

Re: *At LAST!* The NEW stampboards is near Launch day. TEST IT!

Question: There seems to be a little bug (I think and I am not sure if it is linked to the new Stampboards...).

Yesterday I created a new thread: "The St. Lucia stamps and covers discussion thread". Today I wanted to add to it and it is neither in my "view your posts" nor it comes up if I do a search with the terms "The St. Lucia stamps and covers discussion thread". It never happened before. Can someone help?

I see that "aerogi" reports a similar problem just above.

Note: It is a million times easier to load images! Fantastic!

Thanks.

Your previous post is shown as June 4.

My best guess is you typed it, but never got it loaded up. Happens a lot. :?:

A simple check of your own posts would show this.

Thanks for replying but I was referring to the "St. Lucia" post not the Barbados one (They are threads that have very similar names).

Note: I just added a post to that thread and the problem remains. It appears in "New posts" but not in "Your posts" neither the search.

Anyway probably not important enough...

Just testing posting because a few times I have posted the browser hanged. The post was posted okay though after I closed the site and came back again.

I believe that all of the aforementioned issues related to missing posts should now be (permanently) resolved. Please check.

My normal approach to Stampboards is to click on 'View Your Posts' and then when I've read any updates on those I look at 'View new posts' which allows me to read updates on posts that I have not contributed to, and any brand new posts which I may or may not be able to contribute to.

It follows, therefore, that if I look at 'my posts' and don't see any new posts on the thread, then when I click on 'new posts' and see the same thread it should show the same.

This morning I followed normal practice. This is one of the threads on 'View Your Posts'
Screen Shot 2020-06-10 at 08.55.15.png

As you see, I had no need to look at this because the last post was mine, at 20.50 on 8th.

I then switched to 'View new posts', and see this, which shows Rigs posted on the same thread at 08.30 on 9th. (and now it's 0900 on 10th).

(Aside from the discrepancy it also seems odd that this is so close to the top of the list 24 hours later.)

None of this is vitally important but it does appear to show an inconsistency that I can't explain.

Is all of this happening after my post (right above yours), or were the screenshots taken earlier?

This obscure feature seems to work well enough for me Yuriy.

Why anyone needs to see every thread they have ever posted to, totally escapes me. But it does seem to be more or less possible, if they are obsessed enough.

The NOTIFICATIONS brand new feature tab at top right shows all recent post replies at a glance, and for anyone extra interested, they can ALSO check the Notify me when a reply is posted button that now works perfectly. And you will get tons of instant emails.

Many folks very conveniently quickly forget what a mess this board was, just 2 weeks back. :!: :!:

Micro managing every obscure feature is NOT happening, just because as a couple of our 21,500 members think it might be really cool to pay someone else to create it. Anyone who wants to see responses to any thread they are interested in, can VERY readily do so now, as outlined above.

EVERY custom adjustment we make here needs to be replicated manually on every new update, and we are hence limiting changes to MAJOR issues only.

Yuriy tells me the new search feature (which also powers the View your posts and New posts features) automatically re-indexes every few minutes, so there may be a small (up to 3 minute) delay in seeing things show up. It is too expensive (resource-wise) to do it live.

So a minute after making a post, looking to see it (for whatever strange reason!) will not show. Sorry to ruin your day.

The next version of phpBB, 3.3.1, should be released in coming months, and the developers have made some substantive improvements to the Sphinx search backend. So we will wait until then, to dig any deeper into this tiny issue.

Let's move on folks, and raise anything of actual relevance here only please.

Thanks

Glen

Hit a bit of a problem which I don't know if anyone else has noticed- part way through preparing a post, which included images loaded directly, decided to save as draft. However on reloading draft these images were "no longer available" and lost from the "Attachments" window. An image picked off a previous post using "copy image address" was still OK. It could be that this is inevitable given the method of image insertion?

Any thoughts?

I believe there is a warning that 'only the message' will be saved to drafts. Something like that. I didn't have any attachments in my draft (that I saved inadvertently anyway and simply reloaded), but I think that's the way it works, and is supposed to work.

If you have them on your desktop as I do mostly for non-planned posts, it's a simple matter to re-drag.

For 15 years of owning this board I have never used DRAFTS but no time like the present.

Not sure if anyone can translate the following message into Scottish, but it does seem to cover things crystal clearly, so why on earth we are being asked about this, I have no idea.

One for OldDuffer to email phpBB about to add for future updates, and the rest of us will all soldier on somehow, using old-fashioned and conventional ways to type and save text in advance.

Or use the the PREVIEW Button .. works for most of us pretty well and all images of course show there.
