A few Egyptian and other Middle Eastern stamps from the late 1960s. Part of a collection I bought in 1972.

Very nice. :)

However, NEVER more than 5 or 6 images in EACH post please on these generally long threads.

Each page here is 50 posts long - jamming in 15-20 huge images per post as you have done, means a THOUSAND images need to load for each EVERY page of every thread - and for those on slow connections it simply freezes up their device.

It hence annoys them, and it annoys me, as I am paying a ton of money for bandwidth and storage for images, that google never sees.

SECOND ... I set up this board so it would be like a permanent Wikipedia for Stamps - courtesy of the poweful Google image matching and indexing. We have way over a MILLION images hosted here forever. They NEED captions. Takes a member 10 seconds to do. 8-)

Members come, and members go, but the images (and captions!) remain here forever. :!:

All that great scanning work above, but Google has not indexed a single one of them sadly. :(

No country name, no issue year, no catalogue numbers, no face value, no brief description of the stamp being shown, and not even the word stamp - NADA.

The HARD work (you have done all that!) is in doing the scans - the simple work is a short accurate description under those scans. (Never on top of them)

Our new software now has a handy box allowing all members to add brief but relevant captions to EVERY image – we want to see that USED please -

Image

I often sight really superb scans from members, as we see on this thread, but Google simply will not "see" them. And they will thus never end up being found via a google search.

The Google and other search engine "spiders" that are glued to this site 24/7, sadly do not "see" anything at all looking at these kinds of posts above. So they are really a waste of bandwidth.

There are zero words for them to index in Google text, and worse, no words to index the photo to, which they will always do, if they are captioned.

Google "spiders" do not read or understand any of the wording on a stamp photo. We need to replicate that in TEXT under each photo for them.

We are a stamp board - we all know that we are showing STAMPS, but google spiders needs to be told these are stamps. As THAT is how people search google! Sounds bog basic, but it is true.

So setting up a caption "template" under nice scans saying something like -

USA 1987 22c Wolverine Stamp on First Day Cover. SG xxx, Scott zzzz

THAT will mean in 2 weeks, or 2 months, or 2 years, anyone searching intuitively on the web (as they do) for "USA 1987 22c Wolverine Stamp" will end up with that thread as link #1 most likely.

Remember Google "spiders" cannot mind-read. :) Posting a photo of the Australia 1932 Green Sydney Harbour Bridge stamp is evident visually to us, but unless the words -

Australia 1932 5/- Green Sydney Harbour Bridge stamp, SG 132,

appear as well, Google will not index that.

Sadly, our new software JAMS things up images and text often. We are stuck with that. Savvy members use the PREVIEW button first EVERY time to sort this small issue out. So we added the ADD SPACE button .. use that before you type anything, even words, or before any images, to stop that. It adds white space.

NOTE: Only click it ONCE .. yes two ''ADD SPACE'' html commands appear via one click - that is just quirky coding. i.e. do not hit it TWICE as you will get super LARGE spaces then!

Those savvy members that use the PREVIEW button, will see instantly how that improves your final post! No more ugly jamming up of YOUR posts.

Near ALL images posted here looked better CENTRED -- simply select the attachment image code and then hit CENTRE button as shown.

Also, when posting a string of images, each butts up to one another - pretty ugly, and no definition between them as can clearly be seen above. Using your SHIFT key to add space does not work.

There is a SUPER simple and fast solution to add a few mm of white space between them ….. just manually add a full stop as shown here -

Image

Once again for your posts have done all the above.

Thanks in advance to all members for reading this, and for adhering to it. 8-)

Reason: Added pars and spacing and “air” – always a superb idea on Bulletin Boards! And expanded the heading. Use the "PREVIEW" button folks. It is there for a GOOD reason.

Charles,

Many thanks for posting the stamps of Lebanon! I like very much the earlier engraved stamps of the butterflies.

Please, no need to start a new thread for each post. You already started a thread about Lebanon stamps and another one about Middle East stamps (Which includes Lebanon) with one post in each of them. I think better post all your stamps in one thread and I sure in this way other members will share also their Lebanon and ME stamps. Regards

Thanks, Charles! here is my first contribution to your thread, a set I already posted in the art thread (well...in 2015) about Gibran Khalil Gibran (Jubran) (1883 - 1931) issued by Lebanon in 1983. Gibran was a Lebanese-American artist, poet, and writer. His best known work is the book "The Prophet", tells about the prophet, Al-Mustafa, who discusses with group of people topics such as life and the human condition. The book is divided into chapters dealing with many aspects of life like love, marriage, children, work, good and evil, death and many more. The stamps show Gibran's original illustrations for "The Prophet". I love very much this book and I still keep a copy of it in Hebrew, hence I bought this great set of stamps.

Agree ONE thread is what we need - not a new thread for each album page you find!

Have merged all 3 threads. :!: :!:

Good to see SOME notice was taken re adding CAPTIONS , but a

Thanks for your wonderful contribution Eli. I visited Gibran's beautiful home village of Bsharri many decades ago. It is home to one of the last remaining pockets of Lebanon's famous cedars mentioned in the Bible.

Thanks Charles for one more nice group of ME stamps. I have two Syrian stamps issued to publicize the 23rd Damascus Fair, designed same as the two stamps you posted above about 17th Damascus Fair:

I don't have a lot from Lebanon and Syria in my collections, maybe several sets in my Mythology collection and Folklore collection. Here is one set from Lebanon issued in 1948 I keep under ME mythologies since the first stamp shows the myth about the abduction of Europe and the last one shows goddess Minerva:

I have a small collection of French Colonies includes one set from each colony or French territory that represents the entity. For "State of Greater Lebanon" under French rule I chose the set of 13 stamps issued in 1925 shows landscapes of Lebanon. Here are five of them show Beit El-Din, Baalbek, Deir El-Kamar, Tripoli and Beirut:
